The Bowman Open Optional Program (BOOP) is a highly competitive lottery program that serves students in teacher teams of multi-age learners. Embedded throughout the program are opportunities for students to collaborate with children of varying ages in learning. These activities include STEAM projects, mentoring, book buddies, living museum, markets, Poetry Slams, plays, Arctic Entries, and speeches. Teachers believe academics, social skills, and respect are essential. Real-world opportunities should be integrated into the classroom to make learning engaging and meaningful. A highlight for all students is the mini courses, which are two-day intensives led by community members that offer enrichment activities. The program values communication, creativity, flexibility, cooperation, small- and large-group participation, community service, goal-setting, leadership, and family involvement. Parents can guide enrichment opportunities!
