In the Neighborhood Program, the school serves students in several traditional-style classrooms. These classrooms focus on meeting all students’ academic needs through the use of the Common Core Standards. Teachers use the district-adopted curriculum and emphasize a strong school community.
The Bowman Open Optional Program (BOOP) serves students in teacher teams of different grade levels. Embedded across the program are opportunities for students to collaborate in learning with children of multiple ages. These activities include STEAM projects, mentoring, book buddies, living museum, markets, performances, plays, and speeches. Teachers believe academics, social skills, and respect are essential. Real-world opportunities should be integrated into the classroom to make learning engaging and meaningful. The program values communication, creativity, flexibility, cooperation, small & large group participation, community service, goal-setting, leadership, and family involvement.
The Structured Learning Classroom (SLC) incorporates a variety of evidence-based teaching strategies and curricula to facilitate communication and social skills while teaching grade-level expectations. Students may require adaptive living skill instruction. The Individualized Education Program (IEP) team determines the educational placement for each student after thoughtful and careful dialogue regarding the functional and academic needs of the student. Structured Learning is not a lottery program, but a special education program determined by the IEP team.
